Exclusive photos of the spacecraft that will send astronauts to the moon for the first time in 50 years

NASA has shown the inside of the Orion spacecraft, on which astronauts will fly around the Moon during the Artemis 2 mission, which will launch no earlier than September 2025, Space.com reports.

The team of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Kennedy Space Center in Florida is completing work on the interior of the crew cabin, including the installation of rear shell protection panels and exterior insulation, and preparing Orion for vacuum testing in the spring.

Astronauts of the Artemis 2 mission:

  • Commander Reid Weisman;
  • pilot Victor Glover, who will become the first black man to leave low Earth orbit;
  • Mission specialist Christina Koch is the first woman to go beyond Earth orbit;
  • Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen.

Initially, the Artemis 2 mission was planned to be launched in November 2024, but due to technical problems, it was postponed to September 2025.

The Artemis program aims to create a settlement at the south pole of the Moon to utilize its water resources.

More than 30 countries, including Canada, have signed the Artemis Agreement led by NASA to comply with the norms of peaceful space exploration and, in some cases, provide equipment for missions to the Moon.
