Fifth-generation Merkava tank gets AI support
The 52nd Armored Battalion of the 401st Brigade has received the latest tanks. This is the Merkava 4 Barak, which took five years to develop by the Defense Ministry’s Armored Vehicle Directorate, the AOI Armored Corps, and the Land Forces.
The Merkava 4 Barak uses the developments of IAI Elts, Rafael, Elbit Systems and other Israeli defense giants. The tank is equipped with AI systems responsible for image processing and improved surveillance.
An IronVision helmet was developed for the tank crew commander. In addition to providing a 360-degree view, it displays data on combat operations. Elbit Systems engineers took on the modernization of the night vision system and sights. They installed a touchscreen interface in the Merkava 4 Barak to display information separately to the crew members.
To protect the machine, the Rafael Windbreaker is used. In Europe, this active defense is better known as Trophy.
