Finland does not prohibit Ukraine from using its weapons to strike at Russian territory – Yle

Finland has not imposed any restrictions on its military assistance, and Ukraine can use the weapons provided by Finland in Russia as well. The leadership of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and the Ministry of Defense of Finland reported this to Yle.

The head of the parliamentary Defense Committee, Jukka Kopra, said that “Finland has not imposed any such restrictions” and that “Ukraine should have the right to use these weapons against military targets on Russian territory as well.”

The Ministry of Defense told Yle that Finland has not imposed any restrictions on the use of materials sent to Ukraine.

Defense Minister Häkkänen said in a commentary for the publication that Finland is in constant discussions with allied countries about restrictions on military aid to Ukraine. He noted that large countries that have provided long-range missile systems, among other things, of course also have the right to indicate how they should be used.

Yle noted that in a commentary, the Defense Forces said that the political will and condition of NATO and the rest of the West is that Western weapons should not be used to attack Russian territory.

Yle also asked NATO whether it had given Ukraine instructions on how and where to use military assistance, and was told that any such instructions were provided by NATO member states.

NATO’s position is that Ukraine has the right to self-defense, including the right to strike at Russian military targets outside Ukraine, the newspaper noted.

On February 27, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said that the meeting in Paris on support for Ukraine had been productive and announced an increase in military aid for Ukraine.
