For the first time, Russians officially announced the interception of a Ukrainian anti-ship missile Neptune, but did not provide evidence

The Russian Ministry of Defense officially announces the interception of a Ukrainian anti-ship cruise missile Neptune. As is often the case, the agency did not provide any evidence.

What is known

The agency’s statement said it had successfully intercepted two GMLRS precision-guided missiles launched from HIMARS, two AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles and one Neptune anti-ship missile. The latter appears in the Russian Defense Ministry’s reports for the first time.

The emergency “interception” of the Ukrainian missile is probably related to talks that it was the Neptune that destroyed the S-400 Triumph launcher on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. It happened a few days ago. Later, Ukraine officially announced the use of a new domestically produced missile.

As for Neptune, it is a coastal land-based cruise missile system. It uses 870-kilogram R-360 anti-ship missiles with a warhead weighing 150 kg. The maximum launch range is 280 km.
