Ford has installed a 48-inch screen with the new Android Automotive OS across the entire width of the Lincoln Nautilus interior
Ford held a presentation of the new Lincoln Nautilus at its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. Attention was focused on the huge 48-inch screen (almost) the entire width of the cabin, running on Google’s new Android Automotive operating system.
There is a 5G connection for software updates and communication. The car recognizes the driver and adjusts the settings accordingly. Internal displays can be customized to show more or less information, The Verge reports.
Ford divides the panoramic screen into three sections. On the left is the critical section behind the steering wheel, which serves as a dashboard, auxiliary in the center and a viewing area in front of the passenger seat, which can display multimedia content.
Important information includes typical data such as speed, gear and driver assistance functions. The auxiliary section contains navigation and directions, and the quick overview section includes a music player, clock, and other widgets that can be swapped out depending on the driver’s preferences. This includes information about the vehicle, such as tire pressure and fuel consumption graphs. The weather graph includes small animations of clouds and rain.
The panoramic display is not a touchscreen – nor is it one continuous screen. These are at least two different screens connected together under one piece of curved glass.
All functions can be controlled via the 11.1-inch center touchscreen. The panoramic display is located directly under the windshield, which, according to Ford, will require the driver to look down only slightly to minimize distractions from driving.
