FPV drones with homing are being developed in Ukraine
AirUnit has begun creating exclusive combat FPV drones that can automatically aim at a selected target. This information was made available by Andriy Shtepa, one of the company’s owners.
He stated that the enemy is actively using affordable means on the front line. They are financially beneficial for Russia, but not for Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) need FPV drones capable of hitting targets with an efficiency of at least 20%. AirUnit’s engineering team plans to achieve this figure thanks to the homing system.
“We need cheap solutions that will strike with an efficiency of at least 20%, if we are talking about launching a kamikaze drone, to make a significant difference at the front. We want to make a stable product that will work without fail, won’t cause problems, will be easy for users, and will have an efficiency of more than 20%.“, said Shtepa.
“We are planning to solve the problem through computer vision and building an algorithm for the drone’s operation during a loss of communication,” said Shtepa.
At present, the existing drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are only 10% effective. For comparison, the Russian Lancet drone hits its targets 25-30% of the time. However, this figure is decreasing from time to time, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively looking for effective methods to counter Russian shells.
