France shows off its “monster on wheels”: the new CAESAR Mk II howitzer impresses with its mobility, protection and firepower
The French company Nexter Systems has presented a new 155 mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer CAESAR Mk II, also known as CAESAR NG. The new artillery system offers increased mobility, superior protection and greater firepower.
CAESAR NG is a significant step forward from its predecessor in terms of development, design and capabilities. The next-generation model is designed to provide improved protection, superior mobility and increased firepower, giving it a huge advantage on the battlefield in terms of artillery capabilities.
The CAESAR Mk I self-propelled howitzer has received a major upgrade with an improved armored cabin. This design improvement provides the best protection for the crew against various threats, such as explosive devices, mines, small arms fire and artillery shrapnel.
Mobility is another key area in which the CAESAR NG surpasses its predecessor. Equipped with a new 6×6 chassis, automatic transmission and 460 hp engine, the CAESAR NG offers exceptional off-road capabilities. It provides rapid redeployment and operational flexibility over a wide range of terrain, which is an important feature for evading counter-battery fire and maneuvering in difficult conditions.
The CAESAR NG maintains the high standards set by the original model, capable of delivering 155mm artillery rounds at targets up to 40 kilometers away with standard ammunition. It also incorporates improvements to its firing systems and is designed to be compatible with high-precision ammunition. This ensures that the CAESAR NG can engage a wide range of targets with increased accuracy and efficiency.
CAESAR NG’s improved protection measures are aimed at increasing the risks faced by artillery units in modern warfare scenarios. Increased mobility ensures that the system can respond quickly to operational requirements, providing support wherever it is needed. Improved firepower ensures that CAESAR NG will remain the most important tool for achieving superiority on the battlefield.
