From August 5 to August 6, the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed 13 strategic missiles, 17 cruise missiles and 27 Shahed attack drones
According to the Telegram channel of the Air Force of Ukraine, from the evening of August 5 to the morning of August 6, Russian troops struck with cruise and hypersonic missiles, as well as Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones. The Ukrainian defense forces managed to defeat the drones, but failed to shoot down all the missiles.
What is known
In the first wave, Ukraine’s air defense shot down 12 of the 14 Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles. Russia also launched three X-47M2 hypersonic missiles, but the Ukrainian Air Force did not comment on their effectiveness.
On the night of August 6, 5 out of 6 Kalibr missiles and all 27 Shahed-131/136 unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed. In addition, Russian Tu-95MS bombers launched 20 X-101 and X-555 strategic cruise missiles, of which the Ukrainian Defense Forces managed to shoot down 13.
Thus, in a few hours, Russia fired 70 missiles and drones at Ukraine. The air defense system shot down 57 air threats. Without taking into account the X-47M2 hypersonic missiles, the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense was approximately 85%.
It should be noted that Ukraine has very limited means of countering hypersonic and ballistic missiles that move very fast. Recently, Russia has been increasing its shelling of Ukrainian territory with missiles that are difficult to shoot down.
