Future iPhones will feature new telephoto lenses with 10x zoom.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the first smartphone in Apple’s lineup to receive a tetraprism-based telephoto camera with a five-fold optical zoom. In the future, Apple may switch to a tetraprism with a 10x zoom.
Apple will reportedly replace LG Innotek, which is currently supplying the tetraprism module, with ICT (a subsidiary of Luxshare) due to some conflict, the details of which are not available. Thus, the next generation of the tetraprism module will provide a 10-fold optical zoom.
It is not clear what will happen, but not in the coming year. According to all reports, the module will remain the same in the next generation of iPhone, but in addition to the Pro Max model, the small Pro will also have one. Perhaps the new camera will become a highlight of the iPhone 17 line and, quite possibly, will also appear initially only on the most expensive model.
Kr.Investing doesn’t say anything about this, but we can assume that if Apple really gives the tetraprism telephoto lens a 10x zoom, it will implement another telephoto lens with a smaller zoom. For example, with three times. Recall that such a system is implemented in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, except that the telephoto camera is not based on a tetraprism, but on a periscope module.
