Future versions of Apple Watch may get an external flashlight

Apple has patented an external modular flashlight for the Apple Watch, and it may appear in future versions of the smartwatch.

Your trusty Apple Watch is just great, isn’t it? Not only does it have an incredible amount of health tracking capabilities such as ECG, blood oxygen, stress, and sleep monitoring, but it also has many lifestyle-related features such as smart notifications, NFC, and the ability to make and receive phone calls right from your wrist. You can even download various apps to your smartwatch.

You can also use your Apple Watch’s display as a flashlight when you really need light to see, like in a dark room. And while this particular feature does a pretty decent job, Apple may be working on adding a real flashlight to its Apple Watch.

According to a new patent application titled “Modular Light Assembly for a Wearable Device,” Apple may be working on adding a modular light assembly – a flashlight, to put it not too fancifully – to the Apple Watch strap. In addition, the patent shows that the flashlight can have its own battery so as not to drain the battery of your smartwatch.

It is worth noting that the patent does not necessarily mean that we will get an Apple Watch with a flashlight attached to the strap. However, we can assume that it will be something interesting.

It is also worth adding that smartwatches with built-in flashlights already exist. For example, the Garmin Enduro 2 and Garmin fenix 7X Pro are some of the smartwatches that feature an LED flashlight. And, frankly, it would be even better if Apple found a way to build an LED flashlight directly into the Apple Watch, like Garmin does.
