German drones to be produced in Ukraine
German drone manufacturer Quantum-Systems will open a production and development center in Ukraine.
This was announced on April 18 on the company’s website.
The new enterprise was launched during a visit to Ukraine by a German delegation headed by Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Change Robert Habeck and attended by Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn.
The new plant will be the company’s second facility in Ukraine and is expected to employ around 100 people by the end of the year.
Quantum-Systems is investing up to six million euros in the new production facility over the next two years.
“For the company, this is a vote of confidence in Ukraine and its citizens, which indicates its intention to provide Ukraine with long-term support in protecting the country,” the company’s press service emphasized.
Currently, Quantum-Systems produces dual-use drones at three facilities for the civilian and public sectors. About 250 employees are involved in the production. This is the fourth plant of the German company in Ukraine.
The new facility is expected to increase the company’s production capacity to 1,000 drones per year, including the production of spare parts.
A service, support, training and logistics center of Quantum-Systems with 25 Ukrainian employees has been operating in Ukraine since last year. They train drone pilots and implement new technological solutions in reconnaissance UAVs on-site.
Quantum-Systems’ Vector medium-range drones have been operating in Ukraine since May 2022.
So far, 212 systems have been provided with funding from the German government. The company said that 500 UAVs are expected to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year.
The German manufacturer also donated 100 Trinity drones in different versions to Ukraine as part of a contract signed in September 2023 between Quantum-Systems CEO Florian Seibel and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
