Germany and Norway are in talks to build a hydrogen pipeline to reduce dependence on Russian gas. The Minister of Economy of Germany Robert Habeck and the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Store discussed this issue during the meeting, Bloomberg reports.
The countries plan to carry out a feasibility study in the near future to transport hydrogen from Norway to Germany.
Germany, Europe’s largest economy, receives more than half of its gas, half of its coal and about a third of its oil from Russia.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised to increase underground gas and coal storage to reduce their susceptibility to any potential supply disruptions. The government is also buying liquefied natural gas, supporting efforts to build new LNG terminals and insisting on faster expansion of renewable energy sources.
