Germany’s willingness to help Ukrainian refugees has decreased
Russia’s attack on Ukraine caused a wave of readiness to help Ukrainian refugees in Germany, which continues to this day. However, according to a survey by the German Center for Integration and Migration Studies (DEZIM), the desire to help has decreased somewhat.
This is evidenced by the results of two DPA surveys, the results of which BILD cites.
As the research shows, at the beginning of March, every fourth German (27%) was ready to temporarily accept refugees from Ukraine at home, now this share has fallen to 17%. It is noteworthy that in the summer almost every second person (47%) could imagine working as a volunteer for refugees from Ukraine. In March, it was 58%. The willingness to donate money for refugees from Ukraine also decreased somewhat. In March, 69% of respondents were ready to do this. In the summer, willingness to donate was 58%.
We will remind you that Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine caused the largest migration crisis since the Second World War. According to the UN, almost a third of the population of Ukraine left their homes due to the war.
In addition, at the end of last year, 36.5 million children worldwide were forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence and other crises. This is the largest number of child refugees since World War II, but these numbers do not include those who became refugees due to Russian aggression in Ukraine.
