Google has a new wave of layoffs: Assistant, AR, and engineers are being fired

Google has decided to lay off hundreds of its employees working in the field of digital assistant, hardware, and engineering teams.

This was reported by Bloomberg

This decision was made as part of the cost reduction strategy. The layoffs include employees involved in the development of the Google Assistant voice assistant, teams working on augmented reality hardware, and the company’s engineering team.

Such measures are caused by the pressure on Google’s basic search business from competitors such as Microsoft and OpenAI, which have created proposals in the field of artificial intelligence. Google promises a thorough analysis of its operations to find places to cut costs and focus resources on the most important priorities.

The search giant has already begun laying off employees in January 2023, when it announced the layoff of about 12 thousand people, which is more than 6% of the company’s total headcount.

Employees who lost their jobs at Google were given the opportunity to apply for vacancies in other divisions. The Alphabet Workers Union rozkriticized shorthand.
