Google is preparing two new versions of the Pixel Watch 3 smartwatch with different sizes
The first two generations of Pixel Watch were often criticized for their small size. Google plans to release the Pixel Watch 3 in two sizes this year to address this issue, according to people familiar with the company’s plans, according to 9to5google.
Pixel Watch 2 has key specifications higher than the original, but the design remains unchanged, including a diameter of 41 mm and a thickness of 12.3 mm. The main visual difference is the side button, but otherwise, to distinguish between the two models, you have to look at the touch stack on the bottom.
The size of the watch on your wrist matters. For some users, the Pixel Watch seems too small. In the case of wearables, a larger watch case often allows for better specs, including a larger battery and more space for sensors. On smartwatches, larger screens can significantly improve the user experience.
It is not yet known whether Google plans to differentiate the functionality between the two sizes, except for the screen size and perhaps a slightly larger battery. The recent reorganization of Fitbit and Google hardware should not affect the product development in the short term, although plans may of course change before the launch.
Given the competitive environment, Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch 6 in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes, as well as the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic in 43 mm and 47 mm sizes with identical screen sizes, but with the addition of a rotating bezel and the use of stainless steel instead of aluminum. Apple Watch Series 9 is available in 41 mm or 45 mm sizes.
We hope that Google will also reduce the bezel and add a larger screen to the smaller model. The big question is whether the existing straps will be compatible with the new larger size, given the curvature.
By releasing a larger model, Google is addressing the most significant user complaint. There were many cases when people chose Samsung because the Pixel Watch seemed too small for them.
