Google Play allows apps with NFT and token integration

On July 12, Google product manager Joseph Mills announced that Google has updated its mobile software market policy to allow developers to integrate digital assets such as NFTs into their games through the Play app store, TechCrunch reports.

The updated policy requires applications to be transparent to users about the use of tokenized digital assets, and developers cannot advertise or embellish potential earnings from gaming or trading activities.

In addition, apps that do not comply with Google Play’s gambling and real money gaming policy or do not meet the qualification requirements cannot accept payments for chances to win assets, including NFTs.

This policy change is aimed at preventing newcomers from being deceived into believing that buying NFTs will lead to significant profits.

According to Mills, such changes will allow apps and games on Google Play to reconsider their approaches to user-generated content and add NFT rewards to increase user loyalty.

Google expects the new features to be available to users in apps and games from Google Play this summer.

The developers are currently testing the new rules. By the end of 2023, these rules will be applied to all developers for Google Play.
