Google starts blocking services for sanctioned Russian companies – media
The American company Google has begun blocking Google Workspace corporate services (corporate email, documents, etc.) of a number of Russian companies that have been subject to US sanctions.
This was reported by Kommersant.
According to sources in two large IT companies, on the night of August 10, Google began to massively block Google Workspace corporate services (corporate email, Google Docs, Google Drive, etc.) for Russian companies under US sanctions.
Sources say that the American corporation argued that the blocking was due to the sending of “spam messages.”
In May 2022, it became known that Google intends to liquidate the Russian Google LLC and take abroad employees who want to continue working for the American company. In June, Google filed for bankruptcy itself.
According to Kirill Vinokurov, Head of Cloud Solutions Development at Softline (a Google Workspace distributor), the American company can block accounts for violating the rules of service use.
Softline is frequently contacted by corporate clients on issues related to Google services, but, according to Vinokurov, there has been no “surge” in blocking.
A source close to Google claims that there have been no changes to access to Workspace services in Russia “on purpose.
