Google unveils official user guide for interacting with its Gemini artificial intelligence

Google, as part of the Cloud Next 2024 conference, presented an official “query writing guide” for its Gemini AI integrated into Workspace.

The guide offers 4 main components of an effective request:

  • Person: who you are in relation to the task (e.g., sales manager).
  • Task: what the AI needs to do (write, summarize, change the tone, etc.).
  • Context: provide as much detail as possible. Link to existing Google Drive documents using the @ menu.
  • Format: bulleted lists, abstracts, character limit, etc.

Google recommends writing queries in natural language using complete sentences. It is not necessary to include all four components at once, but it is important to be brief and avoid jargon.

Several iterations and refinements of the query may be required to get the desired result.

Google puts a special emphasis on building a dialog with AI in the course of work. Studies have shown that the most successful queries contain about 21 words on average.
