Great Britain began testing combat laser weapons Dragonfire (video)
As part of the Laser Directed Energy Program, a series of tests of the Dragonfire laser weapon has been launched in Great Britain.
Program participants began testing the combat laser to confirm the accuracy and power of the Dragonfire installation. The debut test proved the efficiency of the system in tracking targets in the air and in the water.
At this stage, a low-power QinetiQ laser was used. Currently, experts are working on preparing Dragonfire for the second stage of testing. The next stage will be focused on testing the high-power installation.
The purpose of Dragonfire development is to create a weapon that can protect ground forces and ships from missiles or artillery shells. According to the plan, the new system will destroy missiles in the air at a long distance from the target.
