Hamas used wired telephony instead of smartphones and PCs for 2 years to hide preparations for an attack on Israel from intelligence

At one time, Dmytro Dubilet, a minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, proposed to abandon the government communication system based on landlines in favor of smartphones and messengers. This was to save budgetary funds and provide a number of advantages of new technologies. However, it turned out that telephone lines could still be better in the context of military operations.

Hamas militants do not listen to the advice of Ukrainian ministers, but continue to effectively use old wired telephone technology to ensure the secrecy of their operations. This was reported by intelligence sources. For example, Hamas militants have long used telephone lines laid in tunnels under the Gaza Strip to plan attacks on Israel. And this method of communication proved to be quite effective in ensuring secrecy.

The telephone lines in the tunnels allowed the operatives to communicate secretly, and Israeli intelligence could not track them. The Hamas cell planned operations and coordinated its activities using wired telephone lines, remaining in the shadows for 2 years – until the attack on Israel began on October 7. The militants avoided using computers and cell phones for a 2-year period to avoid detection by Israeli or American intelligence. Operations were planned and coordinated in person or via wired telephone.

It is assumed that the rejection of digital technologies, among other things, helped to catch the Israeli and US intelligence agencies off guard and launch a coordinated attack on October 7 involving at least 1,500 militants.
