Houses collapse in Istanbul due to subway construction (photos)
According to Istanbul Governor Davut Gul, the buildings were empty at the time of the collapse, so there were no casualties.
On Thursday, January 18, two neighboring buildings collapsed in Istanbul. The reason was the construction of the subway, the Turkish portal Sözcü writes.
It is reported that the collapse occurred on the road in front of 2- and 3-storey buildings in the Elmalikent district of the Turkish capital due to the construction of the Umraniye metro.
The day before, evacuations had been carried out due to the threat of collapse, so there were no people in the buildings at the time of the incident. The street where the incident occurred was closed to traffic and enhanced security measures were taken.
Building collapse in Istanbul: what local authorities say
Governor Davut Gul said that the necessary precautions have been taken around the affected buildings. According to him, there were no deaths or injuries as a result of the incident, as the houses were empty.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality noted that during the work in the subway, the department’s employees evacuated the building after a risk was discovered in the two-story building a few days ago.
