Houthi ballistic missile hits US civilian ship
The US military claims that a ballistic missile fired from Houthi-controlled territory hit the Gibraltar Eagle. This was written by The Guardian.
The Gibraltar Eagle is a US-owned bulk carrier flying the flag of the Marshall Islands. As a result of the missile attack, a fire started in the hold.
The ship’s crew did not report any casualties or significant damage. The ship continued on its route.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency reported that the ship was 95 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen’s main port. The organization advised ships to transit the area.
The British maritime security company Ambrey said that three Houthi missiles were fired at the ship, but two did not reach the sea.
As a reminder, on January 13, the US and UK aircraft and navy struck Houthi targets in Yemen. First of all, radar systems and missile depots were hit. Operation Prosperity Guardian was launched by B2-A bombers that entered Yemeni airspace. The White House then informed the leaders of the US Congressional factions about the start of the military operation.
Earlier, the Iranian- and Russian-backed Houthi movement said that the launches of drones and missiles demonstrate solidarity with the Palestinian people. Their first series of attacks, which began shortly after the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas, targeted commercial vessels that had some connection to Israel.
