Huawei Mate 50 is the first classic smartphone with support for satellite communication
Huawei presented a new generation of flagship smartphones. The Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro models will be able to send text messages via China’s BeiDou satellite network. The function will allow you to communicate in areas where there is no cellular connection.
Satellite communication terminals have been around for a long time, some of them are equipped with Android OS. The novelty of Huawei Mate 50 smartphones is that they are the first mass LTE phones capable of connecting to the network via satellite.
The Mate 50 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro features a 6.74-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Mate 50 has a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate.
Both devices have a 50 MP primary camera with variable aperture and aperture from f/1.4 to f/4. The Pro model received a 64 MP telephoto lens with 200x digital zoom. The regular Mate 50 offers 100x digital zoom with a 12MP sensor.
There is also a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an aperture of f/2.2 on the back of the smartphone. Previous Huawei flagships were often at the top of the camera rating, so you should expect good photo quality from the new products.
Last month, Starlink together with T-Mobile announced the connection of smartphones to the satellite network. Elon Musk and Mike Sievert said that existing devices will be suitable for connection. Satellite communication in Tesla cars is also announced. Both technologies will be tested in certain areas of the United States.
