Hungary bans “petrol tourism”

Fuel is cheaper in Hungary than in other EU countries. That’s why motorists from neighboring countries went there to refuel. However, now such an opportunity has been eliminated.

Hungarian authorities have taken bans on foreigners who want to refuel at gas stations in the country, according to the Serbian TV channel RTS.

“The Hungarian government has decided that from Friday to refuel at Hungarian gas stations will allow owners of cars with Hungarian license plates,” – said RTS

The Hungarian authorities explained this measure by the fact that “petrol tourism, which endangered uninterrupted supply” began to flourish in the country.

In addition, “petrol tourism” is an abuse of pricing policy in Hungary, as gasoline prices in the country are now frozen, recalls the TV channel.

As reported, Hungary continues to block the adoption of an embargo against Russian oil under the sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia in response to the aggression in Ukraine. Bloomberg’s interlocutors say that Budapest’s position on this issue is getting tougher despite the European Commission’s attempts to find a compromise, including postponing the embargo for Hungary and Slovakia until the end of 2024 and for the Czech Republic until June of that year.
