Hungary ratifies Sweden’s NATO application

After a long delay, Budapest finally approved Stockholm’s application to join the North Atlantic Alliance.

On Monday, February 26, the Hungarian parliament ratified Sweden’s application to join NATO. This was reported by the Hungarian edition of Index.

On the first day of the spring session, parliamentarians approved the ratification of Sweden’s membership in NATO.

In particular, 188 deputies voted in favor of this, while six were against. None of the MPs chose the “abstain” option.

Before this vote, Hungary was the only NATO member state that had not ratified Sweden’s NATO application.

Earlier, Orban’s Fidesz party boycotted the vote on Sweden’s membership in NATO. The MPs did not attend the extraordinary session of the parliament, which was scheduled to vote on this issue.

However, the Fidesz later decided to approve the ratification of Sweden’s application for NATO membership.
