Ikea is betting on the future: a new AI assistant will be able to replace an in-store consultant

The assistant, which has recently appeared in the GPT Store, visualizes and presents Ikea products so that you can create a shopping plan before visiting the store or order delivery.

The Ingka Group (the largest owner of the Ikea franchise) say that the AI assistant is part of a series of experiments that the company is conducting to join the “evolution of artificial intelligence and formulate a corresponding strategy.”

At the same time, The Verge’s Emily David, who tested the chatbot, states that it often works slowly or provides incorrect results – and in some cases it’s easier to go straight to the Ikea website to make a selection. However, if you don’t have a consultant with you in the store, you can use Ikea GPT to find out more information about the product.

Currently, the assistant is available only for ChatGPT Plus owners in the United States, but Ingka Group plans to expand access to other regions soon.

Earlier, Ikea has already experimented with smart technologies – for example, in 2022, the store launched a virtual home design function in the Ikea Kreativ app.
