In Slovakia, free travel for Ukrainian refugees will be canceled from 2023

Refugees from Ukraine will no longer be able to use free public transport in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, from January 1, 2023. This is reported by the Unified Transport System of the Bratislava Region.

It is noted that from January 1, 2023, refugees from Ukraine will no longer be able to use Bratislava’s free public transport – buses, electric trains and trolleybuses.

Free transportation will be available only on the day of receipt of SlovakHelp or ‘Temporary Shelter’ documents and during the following four days. Travel documents will be issued only once.

At the same time, students under the age of 18 will be able to use public transport for free in the future. For this, it is necessary to have a confirmation of temporary shelter and a document regarding school attendance.

Also, the right not to pay for travel is reserved for Ukrainians for 60 days from the moment of receiving temporary protection status, if they need to travel to or from work. For this, it is necessary to present a confirmation from the employer about the employment contract.

On October 27, the mass media reported that they intend to change the conditions of stay of Ukrainian refugees in Poland, now they will definitely have to have a PESEL number. In addition, from 2023, refugees from Ukraine will have to pay for housing. Ukrainians staying in Poland for more than 120 days will pay 50% of the total cost (no more than 40 zlotys per day), and those staying longer than 180 days will pay 75% (maximum 60 zlotys per day).
