In the Kursk region of Russia, a proprietary Mohajer-6 drone was spotted being shot down;
A downed Mohajer-6 attack drone, which was exported to Russia from Iran, was spotted in the Kursk region. This is reported by Militarnyi with reference to Russian media.
Details of the incident
A local resident spotted the drone and decided to examine it in detail. The released footage shows the drone’s armament, which consists of two Ghaem-5 guided bombs. The video also shows the drone’s tail number “ER-858”, which indicates its Iranian origin.
History of use
The use of Mohajer-6 drones by the Russian armed forces began in 2022. This was due to Russia’s lack of its own long-range unmanned systems. It should be noted that drones of this type are not currently used very actively, as their weapons are designed to be used from relatively long distances to the target. The Mohajer-6 was designed for reconnaissance, surveillance, reconnaissance and firepower and can carry up to four munitions.
Previous incidents
This is not the first time a Mohajer-6 drone has been lost to Russian air defense and electronic warfare. In June 2023, the wreckage of such a drone was found on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea, which fell due to its jamming by electronic warfare.
Technical characteristics
The Mohajer-6 has a maximum takeoff weight of 600 kg, a payload of 100 kg, and a flight range of 200 km. The drone has a maximum speed of 200 km/h, a flight duration of 12 hours, and a maximum altitude of 5,400 meters. The drone’s hardware consists mainly of foreign components, including Japanese, Chinese, and American cameras and a laser rangefinder, which are civilian goods and are not considered military.
