In Turkey, hotels refuse to accept bank cards of Russians

Turkish hotels have stopped accepting Russian bank cards.

Hotels in Turkey do not accept cards of the Russian payment system ‘Mir’. Russian citizens are reportedly being denied bank card services due to pressure from America and the EU on Ankara to comply with sanctions imposed on Russia over its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by Middle East Eye.

It is reported that large five-star hotels in the resort city of Antalya stopped accepting cards of the Russian payment system. At the same time, ‘mir’ bank cards are still accepted in ATMs and stores in Turkey.

On September 15, the United States and the European Union increased pressure on Turkey, as the Russian payment system is still connected to Turkish banks. The EU believes that Turkey’s banking sector is a loophole that allows Russia to circumvent the sanctions introduced due to the war against Ukraine.

Today, five large Turkish banks are connected to the Russian payment system ‘mir’: Vakıfbank, Ziraat Bank, İş Bank, DenizBank and Halkbank.

We will remind that Turkey continues to receive visitors, despite the strengthening of the European Union rules for tourists from Russia.
