In Ukraine, gasoline generators are converted to LPG
Metropolitan networks of gas service stations have started converting gasoline electric generators to liquefied gas.
Operation of generators on LPG is much cheaper than on gasoline. In addition, gas-powered engines pollute the air several times less.
“Do you have a gasoline generator and a household cylinder? We have an offer. We are now refurbishing electric generators as well – turning gasoline generators into gas generators! A household gas cylinder can be safely connected to such generators – and you spend half as much money per hour of work’, – this is exactly what is said in the message published on the page of one of the gas service stations on the social network.
As the company’s experts noted, the generator consumes 10% more gas than gasoline, so when the same generator runs on gas and gasoline, the cost of operation differs by 35-45%.
“Until recently, we converted generators using factory gas carburetors. And since they have either disappeared on the Ukrainian market, or have increased in price more than 16 times (the price used to be 550-600 UAH, now it is 8-9 thousand UAH), so in the last 2 weeks it is more expedient to convert generators using automotive components,’ he said technical director of the company Yevhen Ustymenko, adding that the company has already converted more than two dozen generators with automotive components.
The company also explained that the operation of a gas generator is no different from operation on gasoline, noting that the operation of a gas generator is even safer, since cases of spontaneous combustion of the generator due to leakage of gasoline fuel occur more often.
According to Yevhen Ustimenko, the conversion of power generators to gas fuel in Ukraine is currently not regulated by any regulatory documents. ‘Therefore, such a conversion can be done at ordinary gas service stations that have experience in such works, which you need to make sure because such a conversion has its own specifics and differs from the conversion of a car,’ he explained.
The manager also added that the company adjusts the equipment of household cylinders with a multi-valve similar to that installed on automobile cylinders. This makes it possible to significantly increase the safety of using cylinders both with a generator and with other gas equipment.
The price for conversion, consumables, taking into account the cost of a 29-liter household cylinder, is about UAH 9,000.
