Incredible progress of robotics paired with AI: a robot forklift performs a tricky task (video)
Agility Robotics has enhanced its Digit warehouse robot with a large language model (LLM). Now it understands people’s requests, even if they are formulated in a complicated way.
The company is developing the Digit robot with the goal of eliminating the need for people working in warehouses to deal with significant physical activity in the future. The humanoid is going to be assigned to perform various tasks, such as moving cargo. And artificial intelligence simplifies this task for both humans and robots.
In a new demo video, Agility Robotics showed Digit performing a simple task – moving a box to another location – after receiving a rather tricky request to “take a box the color of Darth Vader’s lightsaber and move it to the tallest tower in the front row.”
The video shows Digit’s step-by-step internal monologue. First, the robot thinks about the task and assesses the situation around it, then tries to figure out what color is meant. Next, he identifies the red box and looks for the tallest tower in the room to complete the task. In the end, Digit successfully does what it was asked to do, even though it took it a long time.
In early 2023, Agility Robotics significantly improved Digit’s appearance and functionality by adding a head and upper limbs. At the same time, the company continues to build its own factory in Oregon, where it plans to create 10 thousand humanoid robots a year. The retail giant Amazon has signed an agreement with the company to start testing Digit in its operations.
