India plans to establish its own base on the Moon by 2050, Space reports.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has presented a strategic roadmap to achieve this goal.
The plan builds on India’s recent achievements in lunar exploration and progress in implementing plans for human spaceflight.
India became the fifth country to make a successful robotic landing on the Moon in 2023 with the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in October that India should strive for new goals,” including landing astronauts on the moon by 2040.
The Strategic Roadmap is built around the establishment of a base on the Moon and defines the stages of technology development, focusing on human spaceflight as part of the Gaganyaan mission, the development of new launch vehicles, and the expansion of robotic landing capabilities.
