Intel will change the names of processors: Core Ultra 5 instead of Core i5 and a shorter index

Intel’s Director of Global Communications Bernard Fernandez confirmed the company’s change in the Meteor Lake processor naming system, but did not specify the details – the information will be “in the coming weeks”. According to earlier leaks, at least some of the Raptor Lake and Meteor Lake-P processors will be called Core Ultra 5 instead of Core i5.

According to unofficial information, the Ultra designation will be applied only to new processors, but not to upgraded ones.

According to unofficial information, the Ultra designation will be applied only to new processors, but not to upgraded ones.

The word Ultra will replace the prefix “i” before the model index. The name of specific models will also be changed – it will be shorter and the order of the digits will be slightly changed:

  • Core i9 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 9 1X0XH
  • Core i7 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 7 1X0XH
  • Core i5 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 5 1X0XH
  • Core i3 1XX00H → Core (Ultra) 3 1X0XH

In addition, Ashes of the Singularity shared information about a new processor called Core Ultra 5 1003H.

Last year, AMD changed the name of its mobile processors. The new scheme made it possible to combine three generations of Zen architecture and two generations of RDNA graphics within one line. Nothing is known about the purpose of renaming Intel’s processors yet, only that “the company is at a turning point.”
