Internet collapse in Russia: access to key services, including banking and social networks, is not available for the second day

The domain zone of the terrorist state of the Russian Federation has been experiencing serious problems with domain name resolution for two days now. At the moment, users report no access to the websites and services of major banks of the aggressor country, marketplaces and other services, including Yandex and VKontakte. Reports of difficulties accessing websites and problems with applications began to pour in last night.

It is reported that the cause of these problems was the hacking of DNSSEC, a set of extensions to the DNS protocol designed to guarantee the veracity and integrity of data. A temporary solution for the occupiers was to connect to services by IP address. The problem affected the services of various providers in the Russian Federation, as the digital signatures of domains in the ru zone were signed incorrectly.

“DNSSEC technology is extremely important, it adds digital signatures to DNS that provide confirmation of the authenticity of DNS records and ensure the integrity of data in DNS, which is a prerequisite for reliable identification of resources on the network. Thanks to this technology, the probability of IP address spoofing during hacker attacks in the ru domain zone is reduced to zero,” the Russian programmers note.

Employees of the Durov’s Code website confirmed that they were recording a decrease in traffic, but the problem was not on the operator’s side. A similar comment came from Beeline and Tele2. Russian media sites also recorded a sharp decline in traffic.

It is noted that the failure occurred at the Coordination Center for the National Internet Domain, and its specialists are already troubleshooting. Director of the Coordination Center for Russian Domains Andrey Vorobyov commented: “The .ru/.rf Coordination Center informs that a technical problem has arisen affecting the .ru zone related to the global DNSSEC infrastructure. Specialists of the Technical Center of the Internet and ISK-IX are working to resolve the issue. The problem has now been resolved for NSDI subscribers. Restoration work is underway.”

As a reminder, the successful actions of unknown cyber volunteers in Russia resulted in a large-scale disruption of one of the largest Internet providers, Acado-Telecom. The company provides services to a number of state structures of terrorist Russia, including the Putin administration, the FSB, the FSO, local governments in Moscow and other regions, Sberbank, etc.
