iPhone owners can control Siri with different phrases
Apple has introduced a new special features feature called Vocal Shortcuts in iOS 18. After the beta version of Eighteen was released, users discovered that this option allowed them to teach Siri new wake-up words.
With voice commands, users can assign their own phrase that Siri recognizes to launch shortcuts and perform complex tasks. One of these shortcuts can serve as an alternative to “Hello, Siri.”
To set up a voice command, open the Settings app, go to the Special features section, and scroll down to the Voice commands item. Then go to the “Customize voice commands” section and select “Siri” (not “Siri Request”). Next, you should enter a new name that you want to use to activate Siri, for example, “Computer”.
Setting up a Siri voice command
After setting a new name, the user can say it to activate Siri on their iPhone.
It’s worth noting that this feature is limited to iPhones and doesn’t sync with other devices like HomePod, so their users will have to continue using Siri.
Setting up a Siri 2 voice shortcut
As noted on Reddit, after setting up this function, the user will have to wait for activation and only then give the command. With Siri, you can speak a complete phrase without stopping, for example: “Hey Siri, what time is it?”. However, this won’t work with the Vocal Shortcut setting (the user needs to say the wakeup word, pause, and then give the command as soon as the wakeup word activates Siri).
Due to the delay, most users are unlikely to want to use the new feature on a regular basis, according to Reddit discussion participants.
You can use voice commands to launch any shortcut, configure a wide range of system functions and application triggers, combine them with your own sound instead of speech, and more.
