It became known how satellite communication will work in Android smartphones

With the release of Android 14, smartphones on this software platform will start supporting satellite communications. At first, you won’t be able to use it to make voice calls or send SMS. Users will be able to send only emergency SOS signals via satellites. This feature has already been implemented in the iPhone 14.

A screenshot published by Wccftech shows that emergency messages will be displayed in Google Messages in a separate dialog box. It is worth noting that Android smartphones will not support satellite communication by default. To do this, they must have a suitable modem installed. Unfortunately, the satellite communication technology will not be compatible with already released mobile devices.

It is already known that the first to receive satellite support will be the flagship Pixel and Samsung devices. In addition to the iPhone 14, the ability to connect to satellites is currently implemented only in Huawei Mate 50.
