It is the command center of Hamas: Israel says it found entrance to militant tunnel in Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital (photo)

The Israeli Defense Forces reported that they had found an active tunnel shaft inside the Al-Shifa hospital complex in Gaza City.

“Today, Hamas tunnel infrastructure was discovered inside the hospital,” the IDF said.

CNN notes that the military also published photos and videos.

Israeli commandos raided Gaza’s largest hospital in the early morning hours of November 15 after claiming several weeks ago that it was the site of an underground Hamas command and control center.

Doctors and health officials in the Hamas-run enclave have consistently denied the allegations.

CNN emphasizes that it cannot independently verify the statements made by Israel or Hamas.

The video provided by Israel reportedly shows bare ground and a hole in the ground. The sides of the mine appear to be reinforced with concrete. Exposed pipes and cables are also visible close to the surface.

At some point, the camera pans up to show one of the main hospital buildings, which is about 30 meters from the hole.

In a statement, the army said that the military also found a mined car with a large amount of weapons and ammunition nearby.

During a televised briefing on the evening of November 16, IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that army engineers were working to identify the tunnel’s infrastructure.

Hagari also said that soldiers dug an operational tunnel in Al-Rantisi hospital in northern Gaza.
