The dog Commander, owned by US President Joe Biden, has bitten a Secret Service agent in the White House again. The incident occurred on Monday, September 25.
“Yesterday around 8 p.m., a Secret Service police officer encountered a pet of the presidential family and was bitten. The medical staff provided the officer with comprehensive care,” Anthony Guglielmi, head of the Secret Service’s communications service, told reporters.
According to him, the victim is feeling well.
This is the 11th time that the Commander has bitten a staff member of the White House or the Biden residence. Before that, the dog had attacked people at least 10 times in five months (from October 2022 to January 2023). In November 2022, one officer was even hospitalized due to a dog bite.
Earlier, the White House said that the Bidens would conduct additional training and improve the methods of sheepdog training.
Answering CNN’s question about the Commander’s training, First Lady Elizabeth Alexander, a spokesperson for the US First Lady, said: “The presidential family continues to work to help the Commander cope with the often unpredictable situations on the White House grounds.”
- In January 2021, after taking office, Joe Biden brought two German shepherds with him to the White House. The older dog, Champ, died in June at the age of 13. The younger one, Major, would occasionally bite people in the White House, so he was sent for training to the Bidens’ home in Delaware, where they lived for a long time.
