The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a picture of a glowing cloud surrounding a newborn star, Space.com reports.
This is the so-called Herbig-Aro object, which is formed when stellar wind and gas jets burst out of newborn stars, causing shock waves. They crash at high speeds into the gas and dust from which the star was born.
This particular Herbig-Aro facility has the index HH 797. The stellar “cocoon” is located at a distance of about 1000 light-years from the Earth, near the young scattered star cluster IC 348.
Previous observations of HH 797 with ground-based telescopes have shown that the object is moving toward Earth.
