Just like in Ukraine: Israel agrees with SpaceX on Starlink coverage in the frontline zone
Israel is in talks with SpaceX to connect the Starlink Internet to strengthen communications during the war and ahead of the expected ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli Ministry of Communications said in a statement that the move would ensure uninterrupted Internet access in cities on the front line. The ministry representative added that this will be the first time that Israel relies on the Starlink network to serve as a backup in case of failure of other systems.
The Ministry is considering cutting off Internet and telephone services to Gaza. Israel is also working to close the Israeli offices of the Qatari state-owned news network Al-Jazeera, “which is used for Hamas propaganda, incitement and harm to national security in times of war.”
This is the second military conflict in which Starlink has been used as an important and sometimes the only means of communication – the importance of the satellite network in the war in Ukraine cannot be overstated. It is almost certain that this is not what Elon Musk intended for the network, but the escalation of the armed conflict is making adjustments to peaceful dreams. The wars also demonstrate the extreme importance of satellite communications, which is almost independent of communications and other circumstances on the Earth’s surface.
