Large-scale mobile phone outage in the US: more than 50 thousand users are out of service, including the 911 line

Initially, users of only one operator complained about the interruptions, and they could not even call 911. But later, other companies lost their connection as well.

On the morning of February 22, a large-scale outage occurred across the United States. The details were shared on CNN.

In the morning, many customers of the AT&T network experienced mobile communication interruptions. Americans lost the ability to make calls, send text messages, and use the mobile Internet.

The company acknowledged that the network was down, but did not name the cause of the failure. The press service assured that some parts of the system are already starting to recover, but could not provide a timeline for full recovery. Users who lost connection were urged to use Wi-Fi.

It turned out that AT&T customers were unable to call 911 and ask for help from emergency services due to the failure. Users of other operators also reported interruptions in communication, but the companies assured that AT&T’s problems did not affect their work.

The media noted that AT&T had already experienced outages over the past few days. An industry source told reporters that there were no signs of a cyberattack or other crime.

However, The Guardian later reported that more than 50,000 users of different operators had already complained about the interruptions in mobile communications. In addition to AT&T, customers of Verizon, T-Mobile, and UScellular also experienced the outage.

At the same time, Downdetector data shows that all operators have mobile coverage in the United States. In addition, other companies’ servers are also experiencing failures.
