Latvia Strengthens Ukraine’s Air Power with Large-Scale Military Drone Delivery
As part of the international ‘drone coalition,’ Latvia has made a significant contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities by transferring 1,500 drones of various types. Latvia’s Minister of Defense Andris Spruds personally confirmed the shipment of equipment, which is already en route to Ukraine to enhance its defense potential.
Large-Scale Support and Production Expansion Plans
Two leading Latvian drone manufacturers are actively participating in a large-scale program to support Ukraine, planning to deliver 12,000 unmanned aerial vehicles by mid-2024. The total value of this batch will amount to 17 million euros, which is part of broader international support through the ‘drone coalition.’
Latvia’s Defense Minister Andris Spruds reported on the dispatch of the first batch of 1,500 drones of various types, supporting the statement with photos of loaded trucks already heading to Ukraine.
The program demonstrates strong international support for Ukraine in its resistance against Russian aggression. To date, 18 donor countries have joined the ‘drone coalition,’ initiated by Latvia and Ukraine. The total investment within the coalition has already exceeded 2 billion euros, directed towards supplying various types of drones and developing Ukrainian drone production.
The range of unmanned systems includes reconnaissance UAVs, FPV copters, and bomber drones. The production capacities of Latvian companies are constantly being increased to ensure growing supply volumes and improve logistics processes.
An important step in the coalition’s development was Norway’s joining in February 2024, which further strengthened the capabilities of the international alliance and expanded funding for Ukrainian drone production. This partnership demonstrates growing international support for Ukraine and recognition of the critical role of unmanned technologies in modern defense.
This cooperation demonstrates strong support for Ukraine from international partners and opens new opportunities for strengthening defense capabilities through the development of unmanned technologies.
