Lava fountain 4.5 km high: Mount Etna erupts in Sicily (video)

On Sunday, November 12, the highest and most active volcano in Europe, Mount Etna, erupted on the Italian island of Sicily.

This was reported by the Italian newspaper La Sicilia with reference to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy.

According to experts, paroxysmal activity is occurring on Etna from the southeastern crater with ash falling on the foothill villages on the northern side.

A lava fountain gushes from the southeastern crater of Etna. The height of the eruptive pillar is estimated at about 4500 meters above sea level.

In accordance with the predicted model of volcanic ash dispersion, the simulation points to the east-southeast.

It is reported that the current phase of Etna’s eruption, which is now limited to the top of the volcano, does not affect the operation of Vincenzo Bellini International Airport in Catania.

Etna is an active volcano located on the east coast of Sicily, near the cities of Messina and Catania. It is the highest currently active volcano in Europe. Its height changes with each eruption. The volcano can erupt several times a year, spewing lava and ash high above the island of Sicily.

As a reminder, the last eruption of Mount Etna in the southeastern crater took place on August 14, 2023.
