Leopard tanks do not bring the necessary efficiency to the Armed Forces due to insufficiently well-functioning processes in the army

Of the fewer than 100 Leopard 2 tanks in service in Ukraine, at least 26 have been disabled. Others cannot be used by the Armed Forces due to problems with their repair and maintenance.

This was reported by Foreign Affairs.

“Like all tanks, the Leopard 2 and Abrams depend on close whole-of-service coordination with infantry, artillery and engineers to survive on the battlefield. They require an extensive support infrastructure to ensure sustainment in combat. Ukraine was unable to provide this in 2023,” the article says.

As a reminder, the first Leopard 2 tanks arrived in Ukraine in February 2013.

The Leopard 2 is a third-generation German main battle tank. The main armament of the production version of the Leopard 2 tank is a 120 mm Rheinmetall smoothbore gun, the same as the one mounted on the M1 Abrams tank. The Leopard 2 tank is equipped with two machine guns. The sides and stern of the tank are protected from heavy machine guns, medium-caliber guns and old types of tank ammunition.
