Lockheed Martin has increased the range of the GMLRS multiple launch rocket system from 70 km to 150 km

The GMLRS guided multiple launch rocket system has significantly increased the range of missiles, increasing from 70 km to 150 km. Lockheed Martin has demonstrated the capabilities of its ER GMLRS extended-range missile during a flight test at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico.

According to Jay Price, vice president of precision firing at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, this test showed a nearly twofold increase in range while maintaining the famous GMLRS accuracy.

In this 150-kilometer test, the ER GMLRS demonstrated its mastery of flight path, extended range and accuracy from launch to target engagement, exceeding the established success criteria.

The ER GMLRS integrates seamlessly with the HIMARS system, providing impressive missile performance. Prior to launch, the rocket container underwent a thorough Stock Sequence to Target (STS) test, which assessed the rocket’s durability and checked the reliability of the launch container.

These advances in warhead development had a particular impact on the Ukrainian war. The system was used to effectively defeat Russian equipment and forces, providing Ukrainian forces with a significant advantage in range and accuracy. Thus, the GMLRS continues to play a crucial role in modern military operations, providing long-range strike capabilities with high accuracy.

GMLRS has proven to be a true paradigm shift. Given Russia’s indiscriminate bombardment of Ukrainian territory, the ability to destroy long-range missile systems and missile launchers has become critical. Even with NATO and Ukraine’s surveillance capabilities, it was necessary to find a way to destroy these launchers without air superiority, and GMLRS succeeded in accomplishing this task.

Lockheed Martin has produced more than 60,000 GMLRS missiles and has extended the contract to produce GMLRS missiles with unitary and alternative warheads, as well as provide comprehensive logistics support for the US Army, US Marine Corps and international customers.
