Long ago on iPhone, and now on Android: users will be able to find out the degree of wear and tear on their smartphone battery
Google is likely to finally start notifying Android phone users about the reduction in maximum battery capacity. iPhone owners have been using this feature for years.
Unlike iPhone users, who have long been able to see battery statistics in their settings, Android owners currently need third-party apps or have to enter special command codes to check their battery status. This was reported by The Verge.
This month, Pixel phones received an update that shows new battery information. Currently, it is limited to the date of manufacture of the battery and the number of cycles of its operation. But Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 has a hidden “Battery Status” page, dataminers say, and while it doesn’t yet contain a direct battery indicator, its code suggests it could show information such as “the approximate percentage of battery power it can hold now compared to when it was new.”
Icons have also been seen that seem to indicate a decrease in battery capacity or that the battery is not detected. He also says that the Settings app will send notifications whenever there are any updates about the battery status (i.e., if the phone can’t detect the battery or the battery status deteriorates).
The battery status indicator may seem like a fairly simple feature for iPhone owners who have had access to battery information for years, but finally Android owners will also be able to get a similar indicator directly in Settings.
