M142 HIMARS will receive RIG-360 module: now the system will be able to destroy moving targets with GMLRS guided missiles
The American M142 HIMARS missile system will be able to destroy targets in motion. The system will be able to do this thanks to the Remote Interceptor Guidance – 360 (RIG-360) communication module.
Lockheed Martin has announced that a missile communications prototype has successfully demonstrated for the first time the concept of in-flight target updating for the GMLRS precision guided missile. The company said that the successful integration of the RIG-360 into the family of multiple launch rocket systems allows for updated target information in flight, as well as the destruction of mobile targets.
Next year, Lockheed Martin intends to conduct firing tests of the GMLRS with a communication module. This is stated in a press release published on the company’s official website.
Earlier, Lockheed Martin was able to establish a link between the RIG-360 and the PAC-3 MSE missile interceptor. During the test, the Patriot system successfully hit a cruise missile. The communication module receives target information from various sources and allows the PAC-3 MSE to be used without being tied to a radar station.
