Mercedes-Benz plans to open the first plant in Yavor exclusively for the production of cars with an electric drive.
Mercedes-Benz Vans is investing more than €1 billion ($1.05 billion) to build its first factory exclusively for electric vans in Javor, Poland. The company announced the approval of such conditions on Monday.
The van maker has signed a declaration of intent with the Polish government and other partners to add a van plant to its plant in Yavor, where it makes internal combustion engines and batteries for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The plant will be the fourth in the European Mercedes-Benz van production network, which the company is reorganizing to produce only all-electric vans built on the VAN.EA platform.
A possible plant expansion through a joint venture with U.S. electric van maker Rivian ( RIVN.O ) will no longer take place as the U.S. firm has re-prioritized its planned projects, it said in a statement, confirming Rivian’s statement.
