Monobank faced challenges: first, an overload due to a failure at Kyivstar, then a DDoS attack
On the morning of December 12, Kyivstar’s network suffered a large-scale outage that left thousands of its subscribers without connection. Oleg Gorokhovsky, co-founder of monobank, said today that this also negatively affected the operation of one of the neobank’s services. This is an eSIM from mono – due to excessive demand, the service is temporarily unavailable.
On the morning of December 12, Kyivstar mobile users actively reported network outages, including lack of coverage and Internet connection. Thousands of subscribers were left without connection, particularly in Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa and Dnipro regions.
A few hours later, monobank co-founder Oleg Gorokhovsky wished Kyivstar to overcome the crisis as soon as possible and reminded his subscribers of the opportunity to issue an eSIM in mono, a mobile number without a physical SIM card, in 10 seconds. But soon he had to edit his post on Telegram.
“I wrote about our eSIM, but in vain. The service has already been installed. Now it’s taking a long time. There is a huge queue. I wish Kyivstar to overcome this crisis as soon as possible,” the businessman updated his message.
As a reminder, the eSIM service allows you to use several numbers at the same time, switch between them as needed, set up a virtual number on other gadgets, and more. Another advantage is that in case of loss of a smartphone, an attacker will not be able to steal the SIM card.
Soon after, Oleg Gorokhovsky reported a DDoS attack on Monobank itself.
“Massive DDoS attack on Mono. Target of attack: entry points to Amazon (Banks, website).
Everything is under control.”
