1213 Russian citizens who have not submitted documents for a residence permit in accordance with the innovations in immigration legislation may be expelled from Latvia.

According to the new rules, foreigners had to submit their documents by November 30. However, 1213 Russian citizens did not fulfill this requirement and remained in Latvia.
The publication notes that 1344 Russians have submitted their documents, but they were delayed. Another 904 people left Latvia. The final number of Russians to be deported from the country has not yet been determined.
According to the novelties, starting from January 3 next year, the permanent residence permits of Russians who are subject to the changes in the law and who have passed the language test but have not submitted documents by the end of 2023 to obtain EU residency status will lose their validity.
Citizens of the Russian Federation who have not passed the Latvian language exam have until December 31 to apply for a residence permit for the next two years.
In addition, Russians who have valid reasons for not taking the language exam will be able to apply for a residence permit until March 31 next year, and in this case the permit will be valid for two years.
